The shrine of Prophet Aaron

The Maqam of Prophet Aaron (Maqam An-Nabi Harun) is a sacred religious site believed to be the burial place of Prophet Aaron (Harun, peace be upon him), the brother of Prophet Moses (Musa, peace be upon him) and the first High Priest of the Israelites. It is located on the summit of Jabal Haroun (Mount Aaron) near Petra, Jordan, at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) above sea level. The site holds deep religious significance for Muslims, Jews, and Christians, as Prophet Aaron is venerated in all three Abrahamic faiths. The maqam features a white-domed shrine, which dates back to the 13th century and was constructed during the rule of the Mamluk Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammad. The site remains a destination for pilgrims and visitors, who undertake the challenging journey to the mountaintop, combining spiritual devotion with historical exploration, while also enjoying breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
