The shrine of the companion Al-Harith bin Umair Al-Azdi

The Tomb of the Honorable Companion and Martyr Al-Harith ibn Umair Al-Azdi is a significant Islamic and historical landmark located in Busayra, in the Tafilah Governorate of southern Jordan. Al-Harith ibn Umair Al-Azdi was a messenger of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), sent with a letter inviting the ruler of Busra in the Levant to embrace Islam. As he traveled through Mu'tah, he was intercepted by Shurahbil ibn Amr Al-Ghassani, a governor under Byzantine rule. When questioned about his mission, Al-Harith openly declared that he was the messenger of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Shurahbil then ordered his capture, had him bound, and later executed him by beheading. This act was significant as Al-Harith was the only envoy of the Prophet ever to be killed, which deeply grieved the Prophet (peace be upon him) and led to the mobilization of the Muslim army for the Battle of Mu'tah in 8 AH (629 AD). Today, his tomb and shrine stand as a reminder of his sacrifice and unwavering commitment to Islam. It remains a place of pilgrimage and historical reflection, attracting visitors who seek to honor his martyrdom and dedication to the message of Islam.
