The shrine and tomb of the companion Farwa bin Amr Al-Judhami

The Maqam and Tomb of Al-Tabi'i Farwah ibn Amr Al-Judhami is a revered Islamic site located in Tafilah, southern Jordan, near Afra Hot Springs, where he was executed. Farwah ibn Amr Al-Judhami, also known as Al-Nafathi, was a nobleman and the Byzantine governor of Amman in Al-Balqa’, overseeing Palestine and surrounding Arab territories. Though he was not a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he lived during the Prophet’s time and embraced Islam. Farwah sent a letter to the Prophet declaring his faith and offered gifts through his messenger, Mas'ud ibn Sa’d Al-Judhami. The Prophet (peace be upon him) accepted his gift and rewarded his messenger with 500 dirhams. However, when the Byzantines learned of his conversion, they arrested and imprisoned him, attempting to coerce him into renouncing Islam. He remained steadfast in his faith, leading to his execution and crucifixion near Afra, making him one of the earliest martyrs in Islamic history. Today, his shrine and tomb serve as a symbol of faith and sacrifice, attracting pilgrims and visitors who honor his legacy and unwavering commitment to Islam.
