Lion Fountain

The Lion Fountain is a fascinating example of Nabatean artistry, located in the heart of Petra. Dating back to between 200 BC and 200 AD, the fountain depicts a carved lion head, symbolizing strength and water abundance. The fountain was part of an advanced water system that the Nabateans used to channel water across the city. The water spouted from the lion's mouth, representing its symbolic role as a guardian of life. Visitors can observe the remnants of this ancient engineering marvel, reflecting the Nabateans’ ingenuity. Today, it stands as a significant cultural and historical monument. The Lion Fountain reminds us of Petra’s mastery of architecture and water conservation.
