Ein Sarah

Ain Sarah is a natural freshwater spring located at the base of the mountain on which Karak city and its historic castle were built. It is one of the most abundant water sources in the region, with a discharge rate of 350-400 liters per second. Before the development of a modern water network, Ain Sarah was the sole water source for Karak, supplying irrigation for vineyards and olive groves in the Badhan and Barda areas. The water flows for 5 kilometers before merging with Wadi Karak, which eventually drains into the Dead Sea. The spring holds cultural significance in Karak’s folklore, frequently mentioned in traditional songs and chants. Additionally, Ain Sarah Park, located at the western entrance of Karak, is named after the spring, serving as a local recreational spot. The name Ain Sarah has also been used for a Jordanian anise-flavored spirit ("Arak Ain Sarah"), produced by a Karak-based company, further cementing its cultural importance.
