Aqaba Marine Reserve

The Aqaba Marine Reserve (AMR), located in the Gulf of Aqaba in southern Jordan, is a site of exceptional biodiversity and scientific significance. Spanning 2.8 sq. km, the reserve includes a diverse range of marine environments, from coral reefs to seagrass meadows. The AMR is home to 157 species of reef-building corals, 120 species of soft corals, 500 fish species, and 1,000 molluscs, with notable endemism including the Indo-Pacific Humphead Wrasse and the Whale Shark. Its unique location and high resilience to climate change make it a crucial area for both conservation and scientific research.
