Al Sharif Hussein Bin Ali House

Next to the historic Aqaba Castle stands Sharif Hussein bin Ali’s House, a beautiful Hijazi-style home built in 1917 by the people of Aqaba. It served as the residence of Sharif Hussein before his exile to Cyprus in 1925. In the 1930s, the house was converted into a government building, and later restored to become the Aqaba Antiquities Museum, home to rare pieces connected to the Great Arab Revolt. Its collection includes: 🕌 An inscription of Ayat Al-Kursi 🪙 Fatimid gold dinars 🏺 Ceramic artefacts and a crown made of sand and stone uncovered in ancient Ayla In the courtyard in front of the house, a historic ceremony took place in 2004 under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, where the Great Arab Revolt flag—measuring 60 x 30 meters—was raised on a 133-meter flagpole, mirroring the iconic flagpole in Amman. The site once again took center stage in 2016 during the Kingdom’s celebration of the Great Arab Revolt Centennial, when the flag was raised once more in honor of this pivotal moment in Jordan’s history. 🏛️ Today, Sharif Hussein bin Ali’s House remains one of Aqaba’s most significant heritage landmarks, blending history, culture, and national pride in a place that continues to inspire every visitor.
