Wadi Al Mujib

Mujib Biosphere Reserve is the lowest natural reserve in the world, located in the deep Mujib Valley, not far from the east of the Dead Sea, and at a depth of 410 meters below sea level. The reserve, with its magnificent natural scenery, extends to the Karak and Madaba mountains in the north and south, reaching a level of 900 meters above sea level in some places. Wadi Mujib has an amazing biodiversity that is still being explored and documented to this day, as a result of its elevation difference of up to 1,300 m and the flow of water in the valley throughout the year from seven tributaries. More than 300 genera of plants, ten genera of carnivores, and many migratory and non-migratory bird genera have been documented. The reserve - specifically in some remote and inaccessible areas in the mountains and valleys - is a safe haven for rare species of cats, goats and mountain animals. The sandstone slopes of Wadi Mujib are an ideal habitat for one of the world's most important mountain goat species: the Nubian ibex.
