The shrine of the great companion Amer bin Abi Waqqas

The Mausoleum of the Honorable Companion ‘Amr ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) is located in Irbid, Jordan, in a village called Waqas in the Jordan Valley. He was one of the early converts to Islam, accepting the faith as the 11th person after ten others. His mother, Hamnah bint Sufyan, strongly opposed his conversion, subjecting him to severe hardships. She even vowed not to seek shade until he renounced his new faith, leading to the revelation of Surah Luqman (31:15), instructing believers to remain kind to their parents while staying firm in their faith. Amr ibn Abi Waqqas later migrated to Abyssinia to escape persecution but eventually returned to witness the Battle of Uhud. After the Islamic conquests, he moved to Bilad al-Sham (Greater Syria), where he passed away during the Caliphate of Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). His tomb remains a revered site in Jordan, commemorating his steadfastness in Islam.
