The Maqam (shrine) of Prophet Al-Khidr

The Maqam (shrine) of Prophet Al-Khidr is located in the town of Mahis, in the Balqa Governorate, approximately 25 km from the capital, Amman. Prophet Al-Khidr is mentioned in the Quran in Surah Al-Kahf, where he is described as the wise figure whom Prophet Musa (Moses) encountered at the "meeting of the two seas." Interpretations vary regarding the exact location of this meeting, with some sources suggesting it was between the Persian and Roman seas, while others propose locations such as the Jordanian seas (Aqaba and the Red Sea) or even the Strait of Gibraltar. The Quran recounts how Prophet Musa accompanied Al-Khidr until he questioned his seemingly mysterious actions, including the incidents of the ship, the boy, and the wall, after which Al-Khidr revealed their hidden wisdom. The shrine in Mahis is one of several sites associated with Al-Khidr, serving as a place of reflection and spiritual significance for visitors.
