Hanging Monastery – Maalaqat Al Deir

The Hanging Monastery (Umm Al-Tawaqi Cave) is one of Jordan’s most mysterious archaeological sites. Located between Iraq Al-Amir and Wadi Al-Seer, this cliff-carved structure sits about 100 meters above the valley and features over 2,300 triangular niches carved into the limestone. Its purpose remains debated—some believe it was used for burial ashes, others think it served as a pigeon-post center, or had ancient ritual functions.
